WooCommerce Subscriptions integration

Updated September 11, 2026

When WooCommerce Subscriptions is active, a Subscriptions tab appears under Points & Rewards › Settings. It controls how points are earned on renewal orders and on the initial subscription purchase. The tab is only shown when WooCommerce Subscriptions is detected, so if you cannot find it, check that the plugin is installed and active.

Award points on renewal orders

Award points on subscription renewal orders is enabled by default. Turn it off and renewal orders never earn points, while initial subscription purchases carry on being treated as ordinary orders.

Set the renewal earning rate

Renewal earning rate is a Pro option. In the free version renewals always earn at the full regular rate. With Pro you can choose:

  • Same as regular orders – a renewal earns what any order of that value would earn.
  • Percentage of the regular points – enter 50 to halve the points on renewals. Values above 100 award a bonus instead.
  • Fixed points per renewal – a flat amount every renewal, whatever the order is worth. Level multipliers are not applied to fixed renewal points.

Choose when renewal points are awarded

Renewal orders are created in the background and never reach the order confirmation page, so they need their own timing rather than relying on the one under Ways to Earn › Place an Order. Award renewal points offers three choices:

  • Match the “Place an Order” award timing (the default) – an immediate order timing becomes “when the renewal payment completes”; a completed-status timing is kept as it is.
  • When the renewal payment completes – points land as soon as the renewal reaches its first paid status.
  • When the renewal order is completed – points wait for the completed status you have configured for ordinary orders.

Initial subscription orders

Two options change what the first subscription order earns. Both apply to the order itself, to the “you will earn” previews in the cart and checkout, and to the points message on product pages, so a customer is never quoted a figure they do not receive.

  • Include sign-up fees in points calculations – on by default. Turn it off to leave the sign-up fee portion out of spend-based points.
  • Exclude subscription products from earning points – off by default. Turn it on to remove subscription line items, including their sign-up fees, from spend-based points entirely. The product page points message is hidden for those products too.

Neither option affects renewals, which are governed by the renewal settings above.

Renewals and order-count earning

Count renewal orders toward the “Bonus after X Orders” milestone is on by default. Turn it off and only orders a customer places at checkout count, so a subscriber cannot reach the milestone through automatic renewals alone. The same setting also decides whether a renewal keeps an Order Streak alive.

The First Order Bonus is never triggered by a renewal order, whatever this setting is. Both the milestone bonus and the Order Streak are Pro earning methods.

How renewal points appear in the log

Renewal earnings are recorded in the points activity log as Points Earned for Subscription Renewal followed by the order number, so they can be told apart from regular order earnings at a glance. Refunded or cancelled renewals deduct points in the normal way.

Redeeming points on a renewal

When a customer pays a renewal manually, the renewal items are loaded into the cart and they go through the normal checkout, where they can redeem points as usual. The discount stays on the renewal order and the points are deducted against it.

A points discount applied when first buying a subscription comes off that order only. It is never carried into the recurring total, so it does not reduce future renewals.
