Conditional rule actions

When a conditional rule’s conditions all match, its actions decide what happens to the points. Actions are set in the middle column of each rule under Points & Rewards › Settings › Conditional Rules.
Hide and disable the earning method
Hide and disable this way to earn points is the blunt instrument. When the rule matches, the earning method is hidden from the customer and awards nothing at all. Every other action is ignored, so use it when you want an outright exclusion rather than a reduction.
Multiplier
Multiplier scales the points. 1 means no change, 2 doubles them, 0.5 halves them, and 0 removes them without hiding the method from the dashboard.
Min Points and Max Points
Min Points raises the award if the calculation came out lower, and Max Points caps it if it came out higher. 0 in either field means no limit. They are useful for guaranteeing a worthwhile reward on small orders, or preventing an unusually large one from paying out more than you intended.
Add/Subtract Fixed Points
Add/Subtract Fixed Points adds a flat amount on top. Enter a negative number to take points away instead. It is applied to the order total after the level multiplier, so it is a true flat adjustment rather than something that scales with the customer’s tier.
Why the actions heading changes
This is the part that surprises people. The heading above the multiplier and min/max fields reads either Order Actions or Product Actions, and it switches automatically depending on the conditions you chose.
- With only cart or customer conditions, it reads Order Actions. The multiplier and limits apply to everything the order earns.
- As soon as a Product or Product: Category condition is used, it becomes Product Actions. The multiplier and limits then apply only to the points earned from the matching products, and the rest of the order is untouched.
When that happens, Add/Subtract Fixed Points moves into its own Order Actions group below. It always operates on the order as a whole, so a rule can halve the points on one category while still adding a flat bonus to the order.
If a rule seems to be affecting too much or too little of an order, this distinction is almost always the reason.
How actions interact with everything else
Conditional rules are one of several things shaping a final award, alongside level multipliers, the earning limits under Place an Order, and — on subscription renewals — the renewal earning rate. The Potential Points figure on the order edit screen runs the same calculation as the real award, so it is the quickest way to see the combined result.
