Multi-currency support
Updated September 14, 2026
Store credit balances are always held in your shop’s base currency. When a supported currency switcher is active, balances, redemption amounts and cashback are converted on the fly using that plugin’s exchange rates, so a customer browsing in another currency sees correct figures. Check the current state under Store Credit › Settings › Multi-Currency – the tab is informational and has nothing to configure.
Detected switchers
- WOOCS – WooCommerce Currency Switcher (FOX)
- WPML – WooCommerce Multilingual & Multi-Currency
- Aelia Currency Switcher
- CURCY – Multi Currency for WooCommerce (VillaTheme)
- YayCurrency – Multi-Currency Switcher
With one of these active, the tab names it and lists the currencies and the rates in use, relative to the base currency.
Generic and single-currency modes
If some other plugin is changing the active currency, the tab reports a generic currency switcher. The active currency is detected, but no exchange rate can be read from it, so credit amounts are shown at their stored value without conversion. That is worth knowing about rather than leaving to chance – it means a balance can appear in the wrong currency’s symbol at the same numeric value.
With no switcher at all the plugin runs in single-currency mode, and conversion activates automatically if you install a supported switcher later.
Things worth knowing
- Everything is settled in the base currency. A customer who earns credit while browsing in one currency and spends it in another is not affected by the rate moving in between, because only the display converts.
- The admin area always works in the base currency, so the Customers, Vouchers, Activity and Reports screens show base-currency figures.
- Settings that take an amount – minimum top-up, redemption minimum, cashback cap – are entered in the base currency.
