Gifting lets customers send store credit to someone else. Enable it with Allow customers to gift store credit under Store Credit › Settings › Gifting. It is a PRO feature and adds a Gift Credit tab to the customer’s store credit dashboard.

The three ways to give

• Buy a credit gift for someone else – the sender pays for new credit, which is issued to the recipient as a voucher. Needs credit vouchers enabled.
• Send credit from their own account balance – an account-to-account transfer, deducted from the sender immediately. Needs the account balance system enabled.
• Give away a voucher they already own – an existing voucher is reassigned to the recipient. Needs credit vouchers enabled.

Each method only appears when the credit system behind it is switched on, so a balance-only store simply will not show the voucher options.

Limits and options

• Minimum gift amount and Maximum gift amount – the range a single gift can fall in. Set the maximum to 0 for no limit.
• Gift voucher expires after – days before a gifted voucher lapses. 0 means it never expires.
• Let the sender add a personal message – adds a message field, included in the email the recipient receives.
• Gift product name – what a purchased gift is called in the cart and on the order.
• Gift email heading – the heading at the top of the recipient’s email.

What the recipient gets

A gift delivered as a voucher arrives by email with the code, the amount and the sender’s message, and the recipient does not need an account to receive it. A balance transfer goes straight onto an existing account and triggers a different email. Both can be customised on the Email Notifications tab – look for Gift received (voucher) and Gift received (added to balance).

Gifts move credit between customers rather than creating it, so they are counted as transfers in reporting and do not inflate the store’s credit issued total.
