Sell gift cards as catalog products

Updated September 14, 2026

Store credit products are ordinary WooCommerce products that grant credit when the order is paid. Unlike the hidden top-up product, they sit in your catalog with their own images, descriptions and categories, so customers can find them by browsing. Enable the feature with Sell store credit and gift cards as catalog products under Store Credit › Settings › Store Credit Products.

Store Credit Products settings for selling gift cards as catalog products

Turn a product into a gift card

Once the feature is on, every product gains a Store Credit tab in its product data panel. Tick the option there to mark the product as store credit and choose how the amount is decided:

  • Let the customer choose the amount – the product page shows an amount field, with optional minimum and maximum limits.
  • A fixed credit amount – every purchase grants the same amount of credit, whatever the price.
  • Equal to the price paid – the credit matches the line price, which is the usual choice for a straight gift card.

If you would rather not build one by hand, the settings tab has a Create a store credit product button that generates a ready-to-edit product from a name, an amount mode and a delivery method.

Fixed denominations

For a classic 25 / 50 / 100 gift card, build a variable product with one variation per denomination and set the Store Credit amount mode to match the price paid. Each variation then grants credit equal to its own price.

Delivery and expiry

Default delivery method decides whether purchased credit lands on the buyer’s account balance or arrives as a credit voucher; individual products can override it. When delivery is by voucher you can also set Voucher expiry in days, with 0 meaning the global credit expiry setting applies instead.

Sending a gift card to someone else

With Allow sending store credit products as a gift to someone else enabled, the product page gains a “send as a gift” checkbox and fields for the recipient’s details, plus an optional personal message. Gifts are always delivered as a credit voucher emailed to the recipient, so this option needs the credit voucher system to be enabled. You can relabel the checkbox and the heading above the recipient fields on the same tab.
