Voucher codes and the template coupon

Both settings on this page live under Store Credit › Settings › Vouchers, and both apply to vouchers as they are created rather than retroactively.
The code prefix
Voucher code prefix sets the opening of every generated code. The default is credit, producing codes in the shape credit-ab12cd34ef. Changing it to your brand makes vouchers easier to recognise in an inbox or a support ticket.
The random portion after the prefix is generated for you and is what makes each code unique, so a short prefix is fine. Codes are stored in lower case.
The template coupon
By default a voucher carries no restrictions beyond its balance and the customer it is assigned to. If you need every voucher to obey the same rules – a minimum spend, particular products or categories only, individual use, excluded sale items – create a template coupon with Create voucher template coupon and configure it like any other coupon.
Its restriction settings are copied onto every voucher generated afterwards. The code, the balance, the expiry and the assigned customer are always set by the plugin, so anything you put in those fields on the template is ignored.
The template itself is hidden from the Coupons list and cannot be redeemed by a customer – it exists purely as a set of defaults.
A caution about restrictions
Restrictions that suit a promotional coupon can be surprising on stored value. A minimum spend means a customer cannot use their own credit on a small order; individual use only stops them combining a voucher with anything else, including another voucher. Set a template deliberately, and test a voucher end to end after changing it.
