The Floating Gift Widget is a promotional widget that appears when a visitor arrives via a referral link carrying a gift offer. It highlights the welcome gift (a discount coupon or free shipping) to encourage the referred visitor to complete their first purchase. Configure it under Points & Rewards → Settings → Gift Widget.
When It Appears #
The gift widget only shows when a referral gift coupon is present in the visitor’s browser (stored in a cookie after they click a referral link with an active gift offer). This makes it a highly targeted, contextual prompt.
Configuration Options #
- Enable Widget – Toggle the floating gift widget on or off.
- Offer Type – Display a discount coupon or a free shipping offer, matching your referral offer settings.
- Personalised Message – Customise the message shown to the referred visitor (e.g. “Your friend gave you 10% off!”).
- Position – Choose where the widget appears on screen.
- Colour – Customise the widget’s colour.
- Countdown Display – Optionally show a countdown timer to create urgency around the offer.
Anti-Abuse #
- Self-Referral Blocking – Prevents a logged-in customer from receiving their own referral gift.
- First-Order-Only Restriction – The gift can be limited to the referred customer’s first order only.
Relationship to the Referral Programme #
The gift widget works hand-in-hand with the Referral Programme’s gift offer feature. The referrer earns points for successful referrals, while the referred visitor is enticed by the gift offer surfaced through this widget. See the “Referral Programme” doc for details on configuring gift offers.
