See which restriction rejected a coupon
Updated September 15, 2026
When a Better Coupon Restrictions rule rejects a coupon and you are logged in as a shop manager or administrator, the error notice includes an extra line naming the rule. It reads like “Shop managers only: rejected by the “Allowed Weekdays” restriction.”
This is included in the free version and needs no setting.
Who sees the extra line
The line is only added for users who can manage WooCommerce, which normally means administrators and shop managers. Customers only ever see the message itself.
How to use it to test a coupon
- Log in as an administrator.
- Add products to the cart that should qualify.
- Apply the coupon.
- If it is rejected, read the name of the restriction in the extra line, then open the coupon and adjust that field.
Because you are logged in, rules based on the customer use your admin account. For example New Customer Only looks at your own order history. To test as a real shopper, use a private browser window as a guest or log in with a test customer account. The extra line is not shown then, so turn on Track coupon rejections with analytics (PRO) if you need to see reasons for other users.
When no extra line appears
- The coupon was rejected by one of WooCommerce’s own rules, such as the expiry date, minimum spend or usage limit. WooCommerce checks these first and shows its own message.
- The coupon code does not exist or is not published.
- A developer has turned the line off with the
bcrw_show_admin_rejection_hintfilter.
