Data, privacy and uninstalling
Updated September 15, 2026
Better Coupon Restrictions stores its settings on each coupon and in one options entry. It only stores customer data if you turn on PRO rejection analytics, or use referring domain rules.
Customer data
- Rejection Analytics (PRO, off by default) records the coupon, the restriction, the message shown, the time and the customer’s email address or display name.
- Referring domain rules (PRO) set a cookie called
bcrw_referrerholding the domain of the site the visitor came from, for 30 days. It is only set when at least one referring domain list is in use. - Coupon links (PRO) store the codes a shopper arrived with in their WooCommerce session.
Other rules read existing WooCommerce data, such as order history and addresses, at the time the coupon is checked, without storing anything new.
You may want to mention the rejection log and the referrer cookie in your privacy policy if you use them.
Personal data export and erasure
The plugin registers with the WordPress privacy tools at Tools › Export Personal Data and Tools › Erase Personal Data. A customer’s recorded rejections are included in their export, under Coupon Rejections, and deleted when their data is erased.
Deactivating the plugin
Deactivating keeps all data but stops every restriction being checked. Coupons that used Improved Product Restrictions or Improved Category Restrictions are then not limited to any products or categories, because those were moved out of WooCommerce’s own fields. Review those coupons before deactivating.
Deleting the plugin
When you delete the plugin from the Plugins screen it removes:
- the
bcrw_settingsoption and the rejection log table - every coupon meta field the plugin created, including product and category rows and custom messages
WooCommerce’s own excluded products and categories are kept. Nothing is removed while the other edition (free or PRO) is still active, as both use the same data. On multisite, data is removed from every site.
