The Cart tab shows what the customer has in their cart at this moment: the products, quantities, stock levels, totals and any coupons applied. Cart contents are a Pro feature; the headline figures are shown in the free version.

A customer who has a cart but has never ordered has their cart shown on the report even though there are no order tabs to display, which is exactly the customer worth looking at.

Headline figures

• Cart Value – what the cart is currently worth.
• Items In Cart – the total quantity, with the number of distinct products underneath.
• Last Updated – how long ago the cart was last touched.

Cart contents (Pro)

Each line shows the product image, name linked to its edit screen, any variation, the SKU, a stock badge, the quantity and the line total. Where a line has been discounted, the original price is shown struck through. A product that has since been deleted is listed as unavailable rather than dropped.

The stock badge reads In stock, Out of stock or On backorder. Where the product manages stock, the remaining quantity is shown instead, which makes it obvious when a cart is about to consume the last of your stock.

Alongside is a totals panel with subtotal, discount, shipping, tax and total, plus any coupons applied linked to their coupon screens, and the shipping method chosen.

Cart status

Each cart is labelled by how recently it was touched:

• Active now – touched within the last hour. The customer is shopping right now, so leave them alone.
• Idle – touched between one and 24 hours ago. Still live.
• Abandoned – nothing has changed for over 24 hours. The carts worth following up.
• Saved cart – the shopping session has expired, but the items are saved against the account for their next visit.

Where the cart comes from

A live cart is read from the customer’s WooCommerce session. Registered customers key their session on their user ID, so that is a direct lookup. Guests get a random session key, so they are matched on the email address they entered at checkout, which means a guest cart only appears once they have reached that point.

If there is no live session, a registered customer may still have a saved cart held against their account, and that is shown instead. A saved cart has line values but no session totals, so its total is the sum of its lines.

The Cart tab ignores the report’s date range and status filter, since it describes right now rather than history.
