Update 2.0.0 – Simple Points and Rewards: Product Offers & Bonuses, Custom Ways to Earn, and More!

Version 2.0.0 of Simple Points and Rewards is now available!

This is our biggest release yet since launch. It adds two major new ways to earn, a new reward type, a stack of new controls for how points are earned on orders, and a big refresh of the Ways to Earn settings.

Product Offers & Bonuses

Product Offers & Bonuses is a brand new way to earn that awards bonus points for buying specific products, product bundles, or entire product categories.

Every rule is fully configurable, so you can run the kind of targeted promotions that actually move stock:

• Set its own points value, minimum quantityund earning frequency (once, daily, weekly, monthly, or unlimited).
• Add a lifetime award cap per customer.
• Choose a tracking mode – the requirement can be met within a single order, or accumulated across multiple orders over time.
• Give the offer an active start and end date and time, with an optional live countdown timer to create urgency.

Matching product pages can show a “Special Offer” box on the product page.

Every offer appears on the rewards dashboard complete with product images (rotating between images for bundles), product links, and an add-to-cart button – so customers can see exactly what to buy to earn the bonus.

Custom Ways to Earn

For developers, 2.0.0 introduces a full API for registering your own ways to earn points, entirely from code, using spar_register_custom_earn_way().

Each custom way supports points, earning frequency, a lifetime cap per user, role restrictions, an active start/end date and time, and an optional countdown, dashboard card, and button – the same rich options as our built-in earning methods.

Registered ways appear read-only in the Ways to Earn settings (where you can see their rules and drag them into your preferred display order), and you award points from your code via spar_award_custom_earn_way() or the spar_custom_earn_trigger action. There’s also a spar_custom_earn_points filter to adjust the points on the fly.

This makes it possible to reward almost any action on your site.

Free Product Bundle Reward

Eine neue Free Product Bundle reward type lets you select multiple products that are all added to the cart for free when a customer redeems the reward. The bundle products are added as individual line items – so they behave like a normal order – but are grouped and styled together as a single bundle in the cart and at checkout.

To go with it, Free Product and Free Product Bundle rewards can now display the product image on the rewards dashboard instead of an icon (a rotating carousel is shown for bundles), and there’s a new “Show total value” option to display the combined value of the product(s) beneath the reward name.

More Control Over Points on Orders

Die “Place an Order” way to earn gains several new limit options, giving you far more control over when and how many points customers earn on spend:

• Minimum spend to earn Punkte.
• Maximum points per order.
• Maximum percentage of total — caps awarded points so their redeemable value never exceeds a set percentage of the order total.
• Exclude on-sale / discounted products from earning.

We’ve also added a “Do not award points on orders where points were redeemed at checkout” option, so you can stop customers from earning fresh points on an order they’ve already discounted with points (disabled by default).

All configured limits now also appear in the checkout rewards box points summary tooltip, so customers understand the rules up front.

Better “Write a Review” Rewards

• A “Limit per product” option controls how many reviews per product can earn points for each customer.
• A “Require the customer to have purchased the product” option only awards points when WooCommerce can verify the purchase.
• Eine neue “Show purchased products they have not reviewed yet” option adds a “View Products” button to the Write a Review card, listing the customer’s purchases and links to review the ones still eligible for points.

Better Levels & Badges

You can now edit the Custom Benefits shown for the Starter (Level 0) tier – and the settings preview the exact benefits customers see rather than a fixed placeholder.

Each level now also has its own WordPress user capability that’s automatically granted to customers when they reach that level. That means you can restrict content to a level using a membership/restriction plugin or your own code – a simple way to turn your loyalty tiers into real perks.

A Refreshed Ways to Earn Experience

We’ve redesigned the Ways to Earn settings so each earning method’s options are grouped into clearly separated, boxed sections laid out in responsive columns (up to three per row) for much easier scanning.

Alongside that, choosing icons is now far nicer. The Badge Icon, Belohnungs-Symbolund Widget Icon dropdowns have been replaced with a modern visual icon picker that previews each option as a selectable box, and we’ve added many more Font Awesome icons to choose from. You can also now use an Upload / Select button to pick or upload a Custom Icon image straight from the WordPress media library instead of pasting a URL.

We’ve also added a Duplicate button to the Rewards and Levels & Badges lists, so you can copy an existing item and tweak it in seconds.

Avalara Tax Reduction Support

For stores using tax automation, there’s a new “Apply tax reduction to redeemed points” option under the Points Discount on Checkout settings. When enabled, points redemptions are applied as a taxable discount fee, so services such as Avalara / AvaTax can correctly reduce the taxable order amount. It only appears on stores where an Avalara integration is detected (and defaults to enabled there), and adds a “Points redemption tax class” selector so the fee can use the default or a custom WooCommerce tax class.
